EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Greenvolt Power, part of Greenvolt Group and a developer of utility-scale renewable energy projects, has inaugurated the Turośń Kościelna Battery Energy Storage Facility in Podlaskie Voivodeship, Poland. The project has a power rating of 200 MW, an energy storage capacity of 800 MWh, and is connected to Poland's national transmission network through a 110 kV grid connection. The facility is among the largest battery energy storage systems currently operating in the country.
Designed as a four-hour battery energy storage system, the project can charge electricity during periods of surplus generation and discharge it during times of higher demand. This capability supports balancing of Poland's National Power System, enables ancillary services, and facilitates greater integration of renewable electricity from solar and wind generation.
Beginning in 2028, the project will participate in Poland's capacity market under a 17-year contract with a 170 MW capacity obligation, equivalent to approximately 85% of its installed power rating. The system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, enabling response to transmission system operator signals within seconds while supporting an expected operating life exceeding 20 years.
The facility consists of 196 containerised battery modules and 49 containerised transformer stations. Infrastructure support involves systems of monitoring and protection, firefighting equipment, as well as acoustic screens that have been set up in order to reduce the impact on the environment. The facility covers an area of about 35,000 square metres out of which over 70% of the area is environmentally friendly biological land. Environmental and social assessments have been carried out according to IFC and EBRD criteria. P&Q acted as the general contractor, and BYD Energy Storage provided battery technologies.
The project forms part of Greenvolt Power's expanding battery storage portfolio in Poland. The company is working on the 200 MW/800 MWh battery project in Ełk that is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026, and at the same time developing the upcoming 600 MW/2.4 GWh battery energy storage project in Siedlce. These initiatives will contribute to strengthening Greenvolt Power's presence in the rapidly growing market of energy storage systems in Poland.
