The BESS Leuna 3 and BESS Leuna 4 projects in Merseburg, Germany, were supplied with energy storage solutions by CNTE. The two facilities each provide approximately 50 MW/100 MWh, delivering a combined 100 MW/200 MWh capacity. The projects aim to support electricity price arbitrage by storing power during low-price periods and supplying it when prices are high. The deployments further expand CNTE’s presence in Germany’s growing utility-scale battery storage market.

Contemporary Nebula Technology Energy (CNTE), a technology-based Lithium battery energy storage China-based company head quartered in Fuzhou City has supplied energy storage solutions for BESS Leuna 3 & BESS Leuna 4, and both projects were commissioned in June 2026. With individual capacities of approximately 50 MW/100 MWh each, the two projects have a combined capacity of 100 MW/200 MWh, helping CNTE establish its position in Germany's booming battery energy storage market.
The scale of the installations suggests an increasing role for large-scale BESS in supporting electricity market flexibility and enabling more efficient use of available power.
BESS Leuna 3 and BESS Leuna 4 are mainly used for electricity price arbitrage. The facilities can charge batteries when electricity prices are low and discharge stored energy when prices rise. The projects can react to variations in wholesale electricity prices and thus offer an opportunity to optimize the value of stored electricity, besides providing additional flexibility to the power market.
Battery storage can rapidly adjust charging and discharging activity in response to changing market conditions, making it a useful asset as power systems incorporate increasing amounts of variable renewable generation.
The Leuna 3 and Leuna 4 projects also represent a continuation of CNTE’s deployment experience in Germany. The company has previously supplied energy storage solutions for the BESS Krumpa I project, which has a capacity of 50 MW/100 MWh. CNTE has also supported the separately operated BESS Leuna 1 and BESS Leuna 2 projects in the same region.
With the addition of Leuna 3 and Leuna 4, CNTE’s portfolio in the German market demonstrates its involvement in the development of multiple utility-scale battery storage installations.
In Germany, the energy transition is driving the need for flexible assets to balance the changing supply and demand for electricity. As more renewable power comes on line, periods of surplus and shortage can be more extreme. Technologies that can store electricity and then release it when needed are becoming more important.
The commissioning of 100 MW/200 MWh of additional storage capacity through BESS Leuna 3 and BESS Leuna 4 marks another step in the development of Germany’s large-scale battery storage infrastructure. For CNTE, the projects build on its existing German deployments while expanding its experience in delivering utility-scale energy storage solutions designed for market flexibility and long-term grid support.
