Executive Summary

Aventor has been introduced by American Battery Solutions (ABS) its next-generation 800 V lithium-ion battery platform, at The Battery Show North America. Designed for heavy-duty commercial, industrial, and specialty applications, Aventor delivers 113 kWh of energy, 358 kW peak discharge power, and an energy density of 300 Wh/L and up to 200 Wh/kg. The U.S.-engineered platform features domestically sourced cells, a wire-free battery management system, advanced safety technologies, and two adaptable pack configurations. Supporting fast charging from 10% to 80% in 42 minutes or less, Aventor targets a 10-year heavy-duty design life. Customer samples are scheduled for 2027, followed by production in Q1 2028, with initial annual capacity of 6,000 packs, equivalent to approximately 0.7 GWh.

SNAPSHOT

  • Company: American Battery Solutions, Inc. (ABS)

  • Parent company: Komatsu Ltd.

  • Product: Aventor high-voltage lithium-ion battery platform

  • Launch event: The Battery Show North America, booth #5400

  • Battery architecture: 800 V

  • Energy capacity: 113 kWh

  • Peak discharge power: 358 kW

American Battery Solutions, Inc. (ABS), a U.S.-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer and wholly owned subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd., has displayed Aventor, its next-generation high-voltage battery platform, at The Battery Show North America. Commercial vehicles, industrial equipment, and specialty applications are the potential targets of the platform, as they require high energy density, durability, and reliable performance under demanding operating conditions.

Designed, engineered, and assembled in the United States using domestically sourced cells, Aventor supports Build America, Buy America (BABA)-compliant OEM programs. Its 800 V architecture delivers 113 kWh of energy, 358 kW of peak discharge power, a volumetric energy density of 300 Wh/L, and a gravimetric energy density of up to 200 Wh/kg.

The platform uses a scalable architecture with two configurations. The Chassis-Integrated Pack is designed for installation between vehicle frame rails or within constrained horizontal spaces, including roof-mounted applications. The Hyper-Rugged Cube Pack provides additional mechanical protection for equipment exposed to severe vibration, shock, and intensive operating cycles, while supporting multiple mounting orientations.

A wire-free battery management system (BMS) is incorporated and designed to reduce complexity and improve reliability. Precision voltage and temperature monitoring, onboard data storage, and individual cell-group processors enable detailed diagnostics. Additional features include cybersecurity protections, over-the-air updates, active isolation monitoring, vent-gas detection, and anti-propagation technologies.

Commercial vehicle safety and certification requirements of the platform are addressed, including ISO 26262 ASIL-C, FMVSS 305a, UL 2580, and ECE R100.

Its standard enclosure is dust-tight, with IP67 immersion and IP69K high-pressure washdown protection. Aventor supports charging from 10% to 80% in 42 minutes or less. ABS has designed the system for up to 10 years of heavy-duty operation, accounting for environmental exposure, vibration, and mechanical stress, for high-utilization applications.

Development follows ABS' IATF 16949-certified quality management system, supported by domestic engineering, battery validation, and manufacturing capabilities. The company operates engineering and development facilities in Lake Orion, Michigan, and manufacturing operations in Springboro, Ohio.

ABS has planned customer samples for 2027, and the expected commercial production will begin in Q1 2028. Initial manufacturing capacity is projected at 6,000 battery packs annually, representing approximately 0.7 GWh. ABS' battery technology portfolio expands on launching the new battery platform for heavy-duty electrification programs across multiple commercial and industrial sectors.
