It was also the only European-headquartered company in the group. The assessment covered ten criteria, and Wärtsilä’s storage business combines integrated storage systems with its GEMS Digital Energy Platform.

Wärtsilä, a technology group serving the energy and marine markets, has been ranked among the world’s top 10 BESS integrators in Wood Mackenzie’s first Global BESS Integrator Comprehensive Ranking. The company is also the only European-headquartered firm in the global top 10. Wood Mackenzie plans to publish the ranking every year based on supplier performance in the previous calendar year.
The ranking uses ten criteria, including technology maturity, research and development, safety, supply chain resilience, ESG performance and financial strength. Wood Mackenzie also considers project execution experience important as BESS projects become larger and more complex. System design, commissioning experience and long-term operational performance are also part of the assessment.
Wärtsilä has more than a decade of experience in energy storage and has delivered projects in different global markets. Its storage business combines integrated storage systems with the GEMS Digital Energy Platform. The company says GEMS is used to improve asset performance, increase revenues, improve reliability and respond to changing market requirements.
