Coreshell Technologies, a United States-based battery technology company, signed an eight-year supply agreement with L&F Co., Ltd. for lithium-iron phosphate cathode active materials on July 10, 2026. The agreement is intended to secure a long-term, non-Chinese source of LFP for Coreshell's battery platform. It covers cathode materials that will be combined with the company's metallurgical-grade silicon anode technology. Coreshell is targeting defense suppliers, mobility OEMs, and energy storage companies that must meet US sourcing requirements.

The agreement addresses the cathode side of Coreshell's planned battery supply chain. Coreshell stated that it already uses metallurgical-grade silicon sourced in the US instead of conventional graphite in the anode. Its proprietary nanomaterials are designed to limit the structural degradation that has historically constrained the use of metallurgical-grade silicon in lithium-ion cells. L&F's LFP cathode active materials will be paired with that silicon-based anode platform to create a full-cell configuration without Chinese minerals or components.

The companies described the combination as a commercially scalable supply-chain option intended to comply with restrictions involving Foreign Entities of Concern. These restrictions affect battery materials and components used in federal programs and other procurement processes. Coreshell said the agreement would close the remaining sourcing gap between its domestic anode materials and the cathode materials required for complete battery cells. The arrangement is also intended to reduce exposure to changes in trade policy, geopolitical disruption, and variable material lead times.

Federal procurement programs administered through the US Department of War and the US Department of Energy have incorporated domestic sourcing conditions into funding and contract eligibility criteria. Private-sector OEMs are also applying similar requirements to purchasing decisions. The eight-year term is designed to give Coreshell supply certainty across multi-year program cycles. Seung-Heon Ryu, CFO of L&F, said the partnership would extend the company's LFP cathode materials into North American defense, mobility, and ESS markets. He also linked the agreement to procurement readiness under changing US requirements, including the National Defense Authorization Act. Jonathan Tan, CEO of Coreshell Technologies, said the agreement completes the material sourcing structure needed for a US-manufactured battery that is free of Chinese minerals and components from the anode through the cathode. He said compliance has become a procurement requirement for customers in defense, EVs, and grid storage.
