Trina Storage, a China-based energy storage business, has been selected to supply the BESS for the 50 MW/196 MWh AEJ Nozu project in Oita Prefecture, Japan. The company, which is the energy storage business unit of Trinasolar, announced the selection in Tokyo on 14 October 2026.

The project is located in Nishihata, in Nozu Town of Usuki City, and it was awarded under the FY2023 Long-Term Decarbonization Auction of Japan. For the site, Trina Storage will supply its Elementa 2 Pro 5MWh storage solution, and the project is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2028.

The supply will be supported by a team that Trina Storage has established in Japan. Its members work closely with customers and project partners on what each Japanese site requires. They are involved from the day a system is configured, through the delivery of the equipment, and on into after-sales service, with technical consultation given along the way. Behind that team stands the experience that Trina Storage has gained worldwide in battery cell technology, in system integration and in the deployment of storage at utility scale.

Dr. Leo Zhao, Head of Energy Storage (APAC) at Trina Storage, said that the company was pleased to support the growing renewable energy portfolio of Japan through the AEJ Nozu project. He added, "For Nozu and other projects in Japan, our focus is on combining advanced technology with strong local capabilities."

The Nozu project adds to the track record that Trina Storage has been building in the utility-scale storage market of Japan. A 160 MWh utility-scale BESS in the Kyushu region is also being supplied by the company. In September, Trina Storage went on to sign a memorandum of understanding with AMP-lify for approximately 1 GWh of grid-connected BESS projects in the country, and those projects are to feature its latest Elementa 3 series.

Trina Storage operates as the storage arm of Trinasolar, a solar group whose head office is in Changzhou, China.
