Coulomb Solutions Inc. (CSI), a US-based provider of commercial electrification and ESS technologies, is adding 'Megawatt Charging System' capability to its newest 'Mobile Battery Energy Storage Systems'. The option applies to its 699 kWh and 2.3 MWh Mobile BESS and places MCS connections on both the input and output sides. This architecture allows the batteries to be recharged through MCS and subsequently provide high-power MCS charging to compatible commercial electric vehicles.
The 699 kWh Mobile BESS supports up to 700 kW of MCS recharging input and up to 700 kW of MCS charging output. CSI lists mobile fleet charging, temporary deployments, vehicle testing and locations constrained by charging infrastructure among its intended applications. The larger 2.3 MWh Mobile BESS supports up to 1 MW on both MCS input and output and is designed for heavy-duty fleets, Class 8 trucks, buses, ports, industrial applications, eVTOLs, marine use, construction and agricultural applications.
Both configurations also include standard 480 VAC recharging capability for sites without MCS infrastructure. That connection is bidirectional and can support building loads, peak shaving to reduce demand charges and energy shifting between peak and off-peak periods when the BESS is not charging vehicles. CSI said the mobile systems can transport stored energy to fleet locations rather than requiring permanent high-power charging infrastructure at every operating site. Potential uses listed by the company also include school buses, drayage operations, mining equipment, fleet depots, rental equipment, demonstrations, validation programs, emergency charging and temporary sites awaiting utility upgrades.
Both Mobile BESS configurations are eligible under the 2026 CORE Voucher Funding program for a point-of-purchase rebate of up to $300,000. CSI also placed the MCS addition in the context of emerging charging standards. The International Electrotechnical Commission published IEC TS 63379 in February 2026 for conductive DC charging connectors, vehicle inlets and cable assemblies at megawatt power levels. SAE International has issued SAE J3271, which addresses charging couplers, communications and controls, cable systems, bidirectional power transfer and interoperability testing.
David Mazaika, CEO of CSI, said the MCS option is intended to let the mobile BESS recharge quickly using megawatt charging infrastructure before transporting energy to fleet depots for vehicle charging. Greg Laudermilch, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said mobile storage allows charging infrastructure to move with demand while permanent charging facilities, utility interconnections and grid upgrades remain under development. CSI's stated product portfolio includes high-voltage battery systems, commercial vehicle electrification components and mobile BESS.
