OX2, a Sweden-based renewable energy developer, has acquired two BESS from Hanwha Energy Europe in Italy. The two standalone projects have 100 MW/400 MWh of capacity each, making the combined capacity of the acquisition to 200 MW/800 MWh.

Both storage facilities are located in the Apulia region of southern Italy. Their development schedule calls for construction to begin in Q2 2027, while commissioning is expected in late 2028.

The acquisition adds the two projects to OX2's existing activities in Italy. Paolo Tusa, Country Manager OX2 Italy, said the transaction adds to the company's energy storage portfolio and forms part of its continued expansion across onshore wind, solar and energy storage in the Italian market.

OX2 currently has 1.5 GW of projects under development in Italy. The figure covers the company's wider Italian portfolio rather than the capacity of the two newly acquired battery projects.
