TECO Australia & New Zealand (TAC), Billion Watts and Tun Green Power have announced a joint-venture partnership to develop renewable energy and BESS projects in Australia. The collaboration covers the initial Seaspray Solar + BESS Project in Victoria and a planned Tranche 2 distributed energy portfolio.
The partnership combines solar generation, battery storage and related grid infrastructure to store electricity for later use and manage fluctuations in solar generation. The initiative extends TAC’s local footprint beyond industrial motors, power systems and HVAC solutions into renewable energy infrastructure.
The Seaspray project brings a 5.48 MWp solar farm and an 11 MWh battery system to Victoria, Australia. A local joint venture has been set up by the three firms to oversee the build. TAC holds a 45% share in this venture and looks set to win the overarching Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract.
Alongside the Seaspray project, the upcoming Tranche 2 portfolio represents a planned capacity of 50 MW / 200 MWh. Under the expanded portfolio agreement, TECO plans to supply heavy electrical infrastructure, including high-efficiency transformers, ring main units to manage power flow in distribution networks and switchgear to protect electrical circuits.
The corporate structure links major industrial parent companies, with TAC operating as a subsidiary of TECO Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd., and Billion Watts operating under Billion Electric Co., Ltd. Tun Green Power serves as the third primary partner in the Australian alliance.
Describing the project's impact on their 40-year operational history in the region, TAC President Stuart Walker stated that the Seaspray and Tranche 2 developments signal the company’s structural move into equipment supply, energy engineering integration, and localized project execution.
For the technology deployment, Tun Green Power is responsible for supplying and managing the core energy storage hardware. Tun Green Power CEO Mei-Ling Lin explained that the company leverages the firm’s position as an authorized after-sales service provider and strategic partner of global battery manufacturer CATL to deliver international system integration experience to the venture.
Billion Watts is assigned to oversee system integration and comprehensive project management. Billion Watts General Manager of Overseas Business, Chen Chun-Yi, noted that his company brings essential technical experience in grid connection reviews, energy storage integration and navigating complex Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) regulations and market mechanisms.
Ultimately, the partners aim to leverage the Seaspray project and the subsequent Tranche 2 portfolio to establish themselves as key renewable infrastructure providers across Oceania. Immediate next steps for the alliance include executing the EPC contract for Seaspray and organizing the equipment supply chain for the secondary 250-megawatt-hour portfolio.
