EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 

U.S.-based Clearway renewable power owner, Energy Group, has brought the Pine Forest Energy Center online in Hopkins County, Texas. The project comprises 300 MW of solar photovoltaic generation combined with a 200 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) and represents a total investment of approximately USD 685 million. 

The Pine Forest Energy Center is designed to deliver reliable electricity to the Texas grid while supporting grid flexibility through energy storage. Combined, the solar and storage assets are expected to generate sufficient electricity to supply more than 100,000 homes, with the battery system enabling stored power to be dispatched during periods of peak demand or reduced solar output. The facility contributes to grid reliability while supporting the integration of renewable energy in the ERCOT market. 

Construction activities created around 480 jobs and were led by Blattner Energy. Over its projected operating life, the project is expected to generate over USD 58 million in property tax revenue for local schools, emergency services, and public infrastructure. The facility was developed on privately leased land, providing a long-term revenue stream for landowners while maintaining agricultural land use. 

The project is supported by long-term virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) with Dell Technologies and Universal Corporation, providing contracted offtake for the renewable electricity generated. Clearway Energy, Inc. entered into an agreement in 2024 to invest in the project upon reaching commercial operation. 

As part of long-term operations, the Pine Forest Energy Center is expected to remain an ongoing contributor to the local economy and regional clean energy supply in Texas.
