The project is expected to generate 857.6 GWh of electricity annually to supply the equivalent demand of about 300,000 homes and avoid nearly 15 million tonnes of CO₂ over its lifetime. It includes a planned 64.44% net biodiversity gain, supports around 1,250 construction jobs and aligns with the UK’s long-term energy objectives.

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canada-based Canadian Solar, has been granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Tillbridge hybrid project in Lincolnshire, England. The consent was issued on December 2, 2025, by the UK Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The project covers an 800 MW solar installation combined with a 500 MW/1,000 MWh battery energy storage system.
The Tillbridge hybrid project is the joint venture between Recurrent Energy and Tribus Clean Energy, a UK-based renewable energy developer. It is planned to operate as one of the UK’s largest hybrid solar and battery energy storage facilities. This hybrid project is expected to generate about 857.6 GWh of electricity annually, supplying the equivalent demand of approximately 300,000 UK households. This is expected to reduce about 15 million tonnes of CO₂ over its lifetime, while construction is expected to create around 1,250 jobs.
Environmental Measures
The Hybrid facility is planned to provide national and local benefits by adding reliable energy capacity and including defined environmental and community measures. It is designed to achieve a minimum of 64.44% net biodiversity gain through habitat improvements, new green corridors.
The company has delivered 12 GWp of solar capacity and more than 5 GWh of storage across six continents. As of September 30, 2025, the global pipeline includes about 23 GWp of solar and 73 GWh of storage. It also manages over 14 GW of solar and storage assets under O&M contracts, excluding China.
Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, stated that securing the DCO is a significant step forward for the Tillbridge project. The approval positions the development to contribute to the UK’s energy objectives while supporting regional infrastructure and community measures.
