With 5.15 GWh of annual capacity, Waaree ESS has commissioned a BESS container manufacturing facility for utility-scale and C&I applications. The subsidiary of Waaree Energies increased the planned capacity from 3.5 GWh through higher production throughput and the use of cells with greater energy density.
Waaree Energy Storage Solutions, an India-based battery energy storage system manufacturer and a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Ltd, has commissioned a BESS container manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 5.15 GWh. The facility will manufacture containerised battery storage systems for utility-scale projects and commercial and industrial applications.
The company had originally planned 3.5 GWh of BESS container production capacity. It increased the figure to 5.15 GWh by improving production throughput and using battery cells with higher energy density. The revised capacity represents an increase of 1.65 GWh from the initial plan.
Production equipment at the facility includes automated assembly lines, automated guided vehicles and material-handling systems. Testing and quality-assurance systems have also been incorporated into the manufacturing process. Waaree ESS also plans to operationalise 5.15 GWh of battery pack manufacturing capacity during the current financial year. That planned capacity has been revised from an earlier target of 3.5 GWh. These additions form part of Waaree ESS’s planned 20 GWh energy storage manufacturing capacity. The company is developing manufacturing operations covering lithium cells, battery packs and completed BESS containers.
Waaree director Sunil Rathi said domestically manufactured energy storage would be required for grid stability and energy security as India increases clean-energy deployment. This statement represents the company’s stated rationale for developing the integrated manufacturing capacity.
