Hamburg Commercial Bank AG (HCOB), headquartered in Hamburg, is providing financing to ju:niz Energy GmbH for the development and operation of three battery energy storage systems in Germany with a total capacity of 100 MWh. HCOB acted as lender, agent, account bank and hedging bank for the transaction.

Bavarian based Juniz Energy GmbH, an EQT portfolio company, develops and operates large-scale battery storage systems covering the full value chain from planning and construction to commissioning and the management.

Hans Lötzer, Head of Project Finance, Hamburg Commercial Bank, said the financing supports ju:niz Energy as BESS deployment expands in Germany, noting the systems are designed to assist grid operations.

Marco Schweer, Executive Director, HCOB said the cooperation with ju:niz Energy marks a new client relationship and reflects the bank’s role in arranging a suitable financing structure.

Markus Binding, CFO, ju:niz Energy said the financing advances the company’s battery storage pipeline in Germany and noted the need for structures aligned with project and operational requirements.
