PROJECT SNAPSHOT
Project: FlexGen European BESS software expansion
Capacity: 25+ GWh supported globally
Location: UK, Finland, Sweden and wider Europe
Developer: FlexGen Power Systems, LLC
Technology: BESS energy management software, SCADA, PPC, analytics and lifecycle services
Status: Expansion underway; projects awarded in the UK, Finland and Sweden
Focus: Grid applications, renewable energy storage and data centre BESS support
FlexGen Power Systems, LLC, a provider of battery energy storage software and services, has expanded its business presence in Europe to support BESS projects and grid-related applications. The firm is offering energy management software, controls, analytics, SCADA and lifecycle services to storage developers and operators across the region.
The expansion is intended to support battery storage capacity on local grids and meet reliability and affordability objectives. FlexGen has been awarded projects in the UK, Finland and Sweden, where its systems will be used to improve asset management, reduce operational risk and increase availability.
The projects will store surplus renewable electricity and supply it back to the grid during periods of high demand or higher power prices. This function helps grid operators manage variable renewable generation and rising electricity use.
The firm is also targeting battery storage applications for data centres. The systems are intended to support interconnection, operating cost management, cut-over reliability, power quality and the management of AI-related transient loads and large language model demand.
European operations are led by Mike Wallace, Managing Director for Europe. Wallace has more than 30 years of global leadership experience across battery energy storage systems, business development and software-based energy solutions. He said FlexGen sees Europe as a growth market for standalone BESS, co-located battery storage and data centre applications.
The firm currently has staff in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain and Poland, with plans to expand its team in Germany. The company is also progressing through UL testing and VDE Prototype Certification to meet European market requirements.
HybridOS® is FlexGen’s hardware-agnostic energy management system for battery energy storage systems. The platform includes controls, analytics, SCADA and power plant controls, and is designed to work with different battery original equipment manufacturers.
The software helps storage owners manage market participation and integrate different generation sources. The platform also provides real-time data on asset health and operating conditions, supporting site performance, downtime reduction and battery asset life.
FlexGen said HybridOS® can deliver 99% site-level availability when used with lifecycle services, remote monitoring and analytics. The system supports operators by improving visibility into site performance and reducing operational interruptions.
FlexGen provides software and services for deploying, managing and optimizing battery energy storage systems. The company's systems support more than 25 GWh and more than 200 energy storage systems across more than 10 countries.
The European expansion focuses on improving storage project availability, managing renewable electricity and supporting battery asset operations across grid and data centre applications.
