Genex Power Limited has committed up to $500,000 for the redevelopment of the Domville Place community hub in Millmerran to include a large-scale BESS, while also updating the development strategy for its Bulli Creek Clean Energy Park located about 45 km south-west of Millmerran in Queensland. Genex Power is an Australian renewable energy and storage developer founded in 2014. It operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese utility J-POWER (Electric Power Development Co., Ltd.). The company manages over AUD 1.1 billion in renewable assets. Its extensive portfolio includes large-scale batteries, pumped hydro, wind, and solar energy solutions across Queensland and New South Wales.
The updated first stage of the Bulli Creek project, known as BC1, is now planned as a hybrid renewable energy facility combining 300 MW of solar generation with 425 MW/1,700 MWh BESS. The company said the revised configuration is intended to align the project with changing market conditions in Queensland and reduce the overall project risk profile.
The funding for the Domville Place project is unconditional and available immediately without being linked to future project investments. The redevelopment is planned to transform the site into a community precinct in improving new pathways, additional trees, a covered picnic area with permanent stage structures for concerts and public events.
Bulli Creek Clean Energy Park is planned as a multi-stage development with total expected capacity of 2.5 GW once fully completed. Genex said the project is developed in partnership with Millmerran Commerce & Progress Inc. (MCPI) and Toowoomba Regional Council to finalize designs with construction expected to commence in 2027. The grid process has adjusted the target of the construction for BC1 to 2028.
The inclusion of 425 MW battery system reflects the development of energy storage in supporting renewable energy integration and grid stability in Australia. The proposed 1,700 MWh storage capacity would allow stored solar energy to be dispatched during periods of higher electricity demand or lower renewable generation output.
The company stated that community funding initiative and revised Bulli Creek strategy form part of its developing activities in Queensland renewable energy sector. The project is also expected to contribute to local economic activity during construction and future operations.
