EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Financial close with UOB has been secured for a 100 MW / 400 MWh utility-scale BESS being developed by Blueleaf Energy and Universal Peak in Malaysia. The MyBeST project will now move into construction under a Build, Own and Operate model, with commissioning targeted for mid-2027.

  • Project: MyBeST BESS

  • Developers: Blueleaf Energy & Universal Peak

  • Joint Venture: BKHM BESS Sdn Bhd

  • Financing Partner: UOB

  • Capacity: 100 MW / 400 MWh

  • Project Type: Utility-scale BESS

  • Program: Malaysia Battery Energy Storage System (MyBeST)

Blueleaf Energy, Asian renewable energy platform, and Universal Peak have secured financial close with UOB for a 100 MW / 400 MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system in Malaysia. The project forms part of the country's inaugural Battery Energy Storage System, or MyBeST, program overseen by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).

Following financial close, the project will move into construction under a Build, Own and Operate model. Commissioning is scheduled for mid-2027. Blueleaf Energy and Universal Peak are developing the project through their joint venture company, BKHM BESS Sdn Bhd.

The 100 MW / 400 MWh facility is intended to support grid reliability and system flexibility while enabling greater integration of renewable electricity. The development also aligns with Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap, which includes a national target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The financial close follows the launch of Malaysia's Large Scale Solar 6 tender in July 2026. The source positions battery storage and additional solar deployment as part of the country's wider efforts to expand renewable generation and supporting grid infrastructure.

Blueleaf Energy operates as a pan-Asian renewable energy platform owned by a Macquarie Asset Management-managed fund. Universal Peak is a Malaysian turnkey provider of electrical infrastructure solutions. UOB is providing financing for the project, although the companies did not disclose the value or detailed structure of the financing package.

The companies marked financial close through a signing ceremony at Blueleaf Energy's offices in Singapore. Senior representatives from Blueleaf Energy, Universal Peak and UOB attended the event.

The project adds utility-scale storage infrastructure under Malaysia's first MyBeST program. Once operational, its four-hour configuration will provide 400 MWh of energy storage from 100 MW of power capacity.

Blueleaf Energy and Universal Peak said they will continue developing the facility through BKHM BESS Sdn Bhd following financial close. Construction is the project's next stage, with the partners targeting commercial commissioning in mid-2027.
