Project overview
Aer Soléir, an Irish renewable energy developer, has completed financing for the 250 MW/1 GWh Rondissone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in northern Italy. Rondissone represents one of the largest standalone BESS projects currently under construction in Italy.
Financing Structure
Centrus acted as a debt and hedging advisor, structured the transaction with senior debt facilities covering up to 80% of project capex, with a 15-year amortisation profile. The financing was provided by BayernLB, NordLB, CIBC, Siemens Financial Services through Siemens Bank, and ABN AMRO. The transaction represents Italy’s first project financing completed for a standalone battery energy storage asset under long-term contracted revenues.
The total project cost is approximately €180 million (around USD 196 million). The project secured a 15-year Capacity Market contract from the Italian government in the first quarter of 2025. In addition, Aer Soléir entered into a 7-year fixed tolling agreement with EGO Energy, an Italian-based energy technology and trading company in the third quarter of 2025, providing the project with additional revenue certainty.
Rondissone forms part of Aer Soléir’s Italy portfolio, which includes 17 wind, solar PV, and battery storage projects with planned investment of approximately €1.5 billion (around USD 1.64 billion).
Manus O’Donnell, Co-Founder and CFO of Aer Soléir, said the company had reached a financial close on the Rondissone project in collaboration with its banking partners.
