UK-based battery optimization software provider, Arenko has expanded its collaboration with RWE to support optimization of three additional co-located solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the United Kingdom. The added portfolio totals 150 MW increases Arenko-supported RWE sites from 3 to 6.
RWE, a Germany-based global renewable energy company is developing DC-coupled projects in the UK that operate as single market-compliant dispatchable unit.
Two of the newly contracted projects will incorporate 4-hour battery systems. This duration places them among the longer-duration co-located BESS installations currently being deployed in the UK market.
The expansion builds on a framework agreement established between Arenko and RWE in 2024. Following technical collaboration and on boarding across the initial three projects, RWE extended the partnership to include the additional sites. The agreement reflects a continuation of integrated software deployment across a growing hybrid portfolio.
By integrating Nimbus across six RWE sites, Arenko has strengthened its position in the UK grid-scale renewables and storage software segment. The deployment supports operational coordination, market participation and commercial optimization for complex solar-plus-storage assets operating within the UK electricity market framework.
The UK’s Allocation Round 7a (AR7a) auction awarded Contracts for Differences (CfDs) to 4.9 GW of solar and much of it expected to be co-located with batteries, reflecting growth in hybrid projects.
Through support of longer-duration solar-plus-storage assets, Arenko has expanded its role as a software provider for utilities, IPPs and funds operating complex UK renewable portfolios.
Sarah Standen, Head of Commercial Asset Optimization UK, RWE, said that Arenko demonstrated strong technical collaboration and secure system integration across initial UK projects, supporting portfolio expansion.
Rupert Newland, CEO of Arenko said the projects required DC-to-AC conversion within shared infrastructure, enabling co-located solar and storage assets to operate as market-compliant technologies.
