Germany-based independent asset manager, Prime Capital AG, has acquired the 135 MW 4-hour Project Monet battery energy storage system (BESS) in Saxony-Anhalt from Zelos Energy Developments. The project has secured all key permits and is expected to reach ready-to-build status.

The project was acquired on behalf of Prime Green Energy Infrastructure Fund II S.A., SICAV-RAIF (PGEIF II). It is situated within the 50 Hz transmission system operator (TSO) region, one of Germany’s key balancing and congestion-sensitive grid zones.

The project construction due to start in early 2026 and has been developed in compliance with applicable environmental regulations and in coordination with local stakeholders. It is located in an active German power market with increasing demand for grid-scale flexibility.

The acquisition adds to Prime Capital’s existing battery storage portfolio in Germany and aligns with the fund’s focus on energy infrastructure assets that provide dispatchable capacity and system services. Utility-scale BESS projects such as Project Monet are designed to support grid operations by managing short-term imbalances between electricity supply and demand, reducing congestion, and enabling higher utilization of variable renewable generation.

Zelos Energy Developments will continue to support the project during the realization phase following the transaction. CleanCap acted as originator and investment advisor to Prime Capital and will remain involved post-closing, providing support across project management, procurement, tolling arrangements, and debt financing processes. Legal advisory services were provided by DLA Piper for Prime Capital and Brock Müller Ziegenbein and Terpitz Rechtsanwaltskanzlei for Zelos Energy Developments. Technical advisory support was delivered by Afry.

Project Monet adds to Prime Capital’s growing portfolio of German battery assets and reflects continued investment activity in utility-scale storage projects that are aligned with grid operational requirements and market-based revenue mechanisms.

Jens Walzner, Managing Director at Prime Capital, said that the project Monet reflects Prime Capital’s view on the role of large-scale battery storage in Germany’s power system and its cooperation with Zelos Energy Developments.

Timo Juritsch, Managing Director at Zelos Energy Developments, said the transaction represents a further step for Zelos Energy Developments in delivering utility-scale BESS projects in Germany, with continued support for Project Monet’s implementation.
