Germany-based Renewable energy producer, Münch Energie, has closed project financing for two additional large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) located in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. Each project has a discharge capacity of 50 MW and a storage capacity of 100 MWh, bringing the combined capacity of the financed systems to 100 MW / 200 MWh.

The long-term, asset-based financing solution was supported by Capcora as exclusive financial advisor and structured by DAL Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing (DAL), with funds provided by a banking consortium led by DAL / Deutsche Leasing Finance GmbH. The transaction reflected the growing use of tailored financing structures for battery storage assets with high upfront capital needs and market-linked revenue profiles.

According to the company, both battery storage projects are fully permitted, have secured grid connections.  The projects entered commercial operation by June 2026. The projects will connect to the transmission network through a newly constructed high-voltage substation that converts voltage from 31.5 kV to 110 kV for grid integration and power dispatch.

The two projects are part of a 5-battery storage portfolio under development by Münch Energie in Saxony-Anhalt, with a total storage capacity of 500 MWh and a combined power of 250 MW. The battery systems are configured to participate in primary and secondary control reserve markets and intraday power markets.

From a technical perspective, the projects are located adjacent to existing renewable energy infrastructure, allowing shared use of grid connection assets and efficient use of network capacity. The battery systems are designed to provide operational flexibility and accommodate changes in market conditions and regulatory frameworks.

The financing from DAL and Deutsche Leasing Finance supports the implementation of two large-scale battery storage projects under development in Saxony-Anhalt. The clustered deployment of multiple storage assets is designed to support grid congestion management, balance variable generation, and enhance system reliability.

Mario Münch, Managing Partner of Münch Energie, stated that the financing represents the first funding for the company’s BESS cluster in the region and provides a basis for further expansion of its storage portfolio.

Dr. Peer Günzel, Managing Director and Head of Infrastructure and Supply Division at DAL, noted that the transaction supports the development of large-scale battery storage projects, addressing the financing challenges associated with capital intensity, technology cycles, and market-linked revenues.
