SUNOTEC, a European utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system solutions headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria, has signed a five-year cross-border agreement with Shell Energy Europe B.V., a subsidiary of Shell, London in Central Eastern Europe. 

The agreement is connected to SUNOTEC’s 600MWh battery energy storage project, currently under development and scheduled to begin commercial operations by the second quarter of 2026. Once operational, the facility is excepted to function as a flexible energy resource, storing excess power and supplying it during peak demand periods to support grid stability . The agreement was structured and facilitated by Enery Portfolio Optimization. 

This agreement is among the first in Central Eastern Europe, promoting the development of battery energy storage projects across the region.
