R.Power, Poland-based independent renewable energy developer and Swiss-based energy company, Axpo, have signed a long-term optimization services agreement for the 150 MW/300 MWh Jedwabne battery project under construction in Jedwabne, northeastern Poland.

The agreement is valid until 2037 and covers commercial and operational optimisation, expanding collaboration in the Polish electricity market. The arrangement relates to a utility-scale battery energy storage project scheduled to start construction in 2026.

Once commissioned, the installation is expected to be among Poland’s largest battery storage assets, providing grid balancing and flexibility services to support reliable electricity system operations as variable generation capacity increases.

Under the agreement, Axpo will be responsible for optimising the battery asset across electricity and ancillary services markets, supporting its efficient participation in relevant market segments.The scope includes operational planning, dispatch management, and alignment with applicable market rules and technical standards. The contract structure reflects Poland’s evolving regulatory framework for energy storage, enabling efficient participation across relevant market segments while meeting financing and investment requirements.

The agreement builds on an established commercial relationship between R.Power and Axpo Polska. The companies have previously signed multiple solar power purchase agreements in Poland totaling about 300 MW. The latest deal extends cooperation to battery energy storage optimization and commercial management.

The Jedwabne battery project supports R.Power’s strategy to expand flexibility assets along with photovoltaic and wind generation. The company is active across Poland, Romania, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Germany, with battery storage integrated to support market and grid requirements.

Axpo has operated in Poland for about 25 years through Axpo Polska, serving around 35,000 clients and managing a renewable portfolio of roughly 16 TWh. The Jedwabne project reflects the use of long-term optimization contracts combining R.Power’s development pipeline with Axpo’s storage optimization capabilities.
