Yanara Power, a Australia-based renewable energy developer, has appointed Gamuda as the project delivery partner for the Mortlake Energy Hub, a large-scale hybrid renewable energy project approved for construction in southwest Victoria, Australia.
The project has been planned as a utility-scale installation that combines solar generation with long-duration battery energy storage to support grid reliability and dispatchable electricity supply. The Mortlake Energy Hub will integrate a 450 MW solar photovoltaic plant with a 600 MW/2400 MWh battery energy storage system, providing four-hour storage capacity. Once operational, the project is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 200,000 homes.
The project is to be developed on a 1,060-hectare site in southwest Victoria and will connect to the Mortlake Terminal Station through a new substation. According to the company, the configuration integrates with existing grid assets, supports system flexibility, and avoids additional overhead transmission lines, limiting wider land-use impacts.
Gamuda manages the project from detailed design through construction completion. The scope includes local council approvals for public road interfaces, environmental and traffic management plans, and procurement coordination for major equipment and construction packages. The contractor will oversee construction sequencing and delivery controls across the solar and battery components. The delivery model follows an EPC-style structure coordinating technical and regulatory work streams.
During the construction phase, the Mortlake Energy Hub is expected to support around 200 direct jobs, contributing to regional employment and associated economic activity. The project aligns with Victoria’s broader energy transition objectives, including increased deployment of utility-scale storage assets to support higher penetration of variable renewable generation.
Jerome Ortiz, CEO of Yanara Power, said that the appointment of Gamuda supports delivery of the Mortlake Energy Hub in Victoria. He noted the project combines solar generation and battery storage to supply dispatchable electricity. He also added that Yanara expects to work with Gamuda based on its experience delivering complex infrastructure projects.
Ewan Yee, CEO of Gamuda said that the company is working with Yanara on the Mortlake Energy Hub and will apply its international project delivery experience. He also said that the project aligns with Victoria’s 2030 renewable energy targets and forms part of Gamuda’s Australian renewable energy portfolio totaling 2 GW.
