EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

ContourGlobal, a global independent power producer developing and operating power generation and battery storage assets, has signed an agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) for the supply of 3 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The systems will be deployed across ContourGlobal projects in the United Kingdom, Greece and Chile. The agreement is the first bundled supply arrangement between the two companies and provides flexibility to align deliveries with ContourGlobal's project pipeline.
The agreement covers 526 containerised battery storage units, each with a capacity of 5.64 MWh and configured for four hours of continuous discharge. The systems use CATL's large-format lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and incorporate a liquid-cooling architecture.
According to the companies, the technology includes a cell-degradation management system designed to monitor and manage cell ageing. The systems also incorporate fire detection and suppression architecture intended to mitigate thermal propagation and support operation across varying temperature conditions. CATL has also committed to taking back and recycling the batteries at the end of their useful life in accordance with applicable European battery sustainability requirements.
ContourGlobal said projects deploying the systems will also be capable of supporting future grid stability services, including grid-forming functionality where required by system operators.

He said the agreement would establish a standardised utility-scale BESS platform across several countries, supporting consistent engineering, testing, commissioning and long-term asset management.
LB Tan, CCO and Co-President of Sales and Marketing at CATL, said the collaboration combines CATL's battery technology with ContourGlobal's energy infrastructure development capabilities.
The supply agreement covers ContourGlobal's 500 MW/2,000 MWh Wallace standalone BESS project in Scotland, the 100 MW/400 MWh Taxiarches BESS in Greece and the Los Maitenes hybrid project in Chile, which combines 131 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity with a 90 MW/360 MWh BESS. In addition to this the Greek and Chilean projects are under construction, while the Scottish project is in advanced development.
