Sahaj Solar, an India-based solar panel manufacturer, is to set up a BESS manufacturing facility with a production capacity of 1.8 GWh at Dakor in Gujarat, India. The proposal was approved by the board of directors of the company at a meeting held on 19 October 2026, and it was disclosed on the same day to the National Stock Exchange, on which the company is listed.

According to the disclosure, the new capacity is to be added within 12 months, and BESS is to be launched as a new product of the company within the same period. Sahaj Solar has reported its existing BESS capacity as nil, and the facility at Dakor will therefore be its first in the segment.

The investment that is required for the facility has been estimated at about INR 25 crore. That estimate excludes the investment that has already been made in the factory premises, which have been constructed, and the amount is to be financed through a combination of debt and internal accruals.

The rationale that has been given by the company is the vertical integration of its existing solar systems business, which sells solar modules, solar water pumps and off-grid solar power plants. The batteries that are to be made at Dakor are intended for both the domestic and the international market, and India has been named as the country in which the product will be launched.

Sahaj Solar has been engaged in research and development on solar technologies since 2007, and it has been an IEC-approved and MNRE-recognised manufacturer of solar panels in India since 2010. The company, which is headquartered in Ahmedabad, also provides EPC services, and its subsidiaries include Veracity Powertronics and Sunventa Power in India and Sahaj Renewable Energy Zambia abroad.
