PPF banka, a Czech Republic-based bank, has financed the construction and development of Frasinet 1, a 72 MW BESS project in Romania. The financing has been signed and completed, and it was announced on 8 October 2026 by Dentons, the global law firm that advised the bank on the transaction.

Frasinet 1 belongs to the RSJ PE SF Batteries fund, which is a joint platform of RSJ Investments and Second Foundation. The fund is building a broader portfolio of BESS assets across the EU, and the Romanian project is the third of its BESS projects that PPF banka has financed. The bank and the fund had therefore worked together twice before the present transaction was concluded.

The lender is a Czech bank and the project is a Romanian one, and so the laws of both countries had to be considered. Dentons provided the advice through its teams in Prague and Bucharest. The financing and security documentation was drafted and negotiated by the firm, which also reviewed the key contracts of the project. It then supported the transaction until signing and completion, which included the issuance of a legal opinion and the management of the conditions precedent.

The team in Prague included Daniel Hurych, who is a Partner and the Co-Head of the Banking and Finance group, and Petr Zákoucký, who is a Partner and the Head of the Energy practice. The advice on Romanian law was provided from Bucharest by a team that included Simona Marin, a Partner in the Banking and Finance group.

According to Dentons, the advice of the two offices covered financing, security, real estate and energy, and it was given in support of the development of BESS capacity in Romania.

PPF banka is a bank that has its head office in Prague, in the Czech Republic. It acted as the lender in this transaction.
