MaxSolar & Saft Partner on 30 MW BESS in Germany

A 30 MW/76.5 MWh BESS will be developed at Quitzow in Brandenburg under an agreement between MaxSolar and Saft. The wind co-location project will use existing grid infrastructure and forms the first project under a broader cooperation focused on future battery storage developments across European markets.

MaxSolar is a German renewable energy company involved in the development, construction and operation of solar, BESS and energy infrastructure projects. Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, develops and manufactures battery systems for energy storage and industrial applications. The two companies have signed an agreement for their first BESS project in Quitzow, Brandenburg, Germany, forming the basis of a broader strategic cooperation focused on future battery storage developments across European markets.

The Quitzow II project was developed by Denker & Wulf AG and will be delivered on a turnkey basis by MaxSolar as the EPC partner. The project will have an installed capacity of 30 MW and a storage capacity of 76.5 MWh.

Denker & Wulf AG will construct the BESS as a co-location project alongside an existing wind farm and its associated substation. The project will use the existing grid infrastructure while expanding the company's activities in energy storage.

Saft will provide the battery energy storage technology for Quitzow II. The collaboration combines Saft's battery expertise with MaxSolar's experience in developing and delivering energy infrastructure projects.

The announcement followed a meeting between the leadership teams of MaxSolar and Saft during the latest edition of Intersolar Europe, where the companies formalised their broader strategic cooperation. Following Quitzow II, the companies intend to explore additional opportunities for BESS projects across Europe.
