With an annual capacity of 1.2 GWh, Midwest Energy's Bengaluru facility has started commercial production of BESS ranging from 3 kWh to 6 MWh. The cell-to-container plant manufactures modules, trays, racks and containerised systems that comply with UL 1973, UL 9540 and UL 9540A standards.
Commercial production has started at Midwest Energy’s BESS manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. The India-based manufacturer, which is the technology and clean energy arm of Midwest Business House, operates the plant with an annual capacity of 1.2 GWh. It produces BESS ranging from 3 kWh to 6 MWh for C&I, renewable energy and utility-scale applications.
The facility integrates manufacturing processes from battery cells through completed containerised systems. Its production lines cover battery modules, trays and racks before these components are assembled into containerised BESS units. This cell-to-container structure enables multiple system sizes to be produced within the same facility.
Products manufactured at the plant comply with UL 1973, UL 9540 and UL 9540A safety standards. UL 1973 applies to stationary battery systems, while the source identifies UL 9540 and UL 9540A as additional standards met by the products. The facility also incorporates quality-assurance, component-traceability and end-of-line testing systems within its manufacturing operations.
Soumya K, Director of Midwest Energy, said increasing renewable energy integration creates challenges involving mismatches between electricity demand and supply, grid instability and supply uncertainty. She described BESS as a rapidly deployable option for addressing those stated challenges and supporting a more stable energy system.
The director also stated that the Bengaluru facility is intended to develop domestic capabilities for designing, manufacturing and deploying energy storage systems in India. Commercial production brings the plant's stated 1.2 GWh annual manufacturing capacity into operation.
