OX2 has selected Trina Storage to deliver a 50 MW/209 MWh battery energy storage system for the Fageråsen project in Sweden. The facility will be the first European project to use Trina Storage’s integrated Elementa 3 and Electra 13.8 solution, while expanding the companies’ utility-scale storage partnership across the Nordic region.
Trina Storage, the energy storage business of Trinasolar, has signed an agreement with renewable energy developer OX2 to supply a 50 MW/209 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Fageråsen project in Sweden. Located adjacent to the Fageråsen wind farm in Malung-Sälen Municipality, the project is designed to improve grid flexibility while supporting the integration of renewable electricity into Sweden's power system.
The project represents the third utility-scale battery storage project awarded by OX2 to Trina Storage, following the Kannisto and Korkeamaa projects in Finland. Together, the three projects account for approximately 680 MWh of battery storage capacity, reflecting the continued collaboration between the two companies across the Nordic region.
The Fageråsen project also marks the first European deployment of Trina Storage's latest integrated DC+AC solution, combining the Elementa 3 battery energy storage platform with the newly introduced Electra 13.8 AC unit. The integrated architecture connects battery storage to the grid through a streamlined design intended to simplify installation and improve project execution.
Under the agreement, Trina Storage will provide the complete Elementa 3 and Electra 13.8 solution along with a Power Plant Controller (PPC), commissioning services, and a long-term service agreement. Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the first quarter of 2027, supporting OX2's plan to commission the project by the end of 2027.
Construction of the battery storage facility is expected to begin during summer 2026. Once operational, the system will enhance grid flexibility by storing electricity generated from nearby renewable energy assets and supplying it when required, helping balance electricity demand and renewable generation.
Elementa 3 offers up to 6.25 MWh of storage capacity per unit and incorporates liquid cooling, intelligent thermal management, and multiple safety layers. The Electra 13.8 AC platform integrates power conversion systems (PCS), medium-voltage equipment, and an auxiliary transformer into a factory-integrated skid, reducing on-site installation requirements and supporting faster deployment.
The agreement strengthens Trina Storage's position in the Nordic energy storage market while expanding its utility-scale portfolio across Europe. For OX2, the project adds another large-scale battery storage asset to its growing renewable energy portfolio in Sweden and supports its strategy of integrating energy storage with renewable generation. The deployment also demonstrates increasing adoption of integrated battery storage architectures designed to simplify project delivery and improve operational efficiency for utility-scale energy storage developments.
