China-based distributed solar and energy storage solutions provider, Growatt, has launched AURA 5000, an AC-coupled balcony energy storage system for urban residential applications. The system features 5 kWh of battery capacity, supports bidirectional inverter operation and provides up to 2,500 W AC output in a compact format suitable for apartments, balconies, villas, and other space-constrained homes.
AURA 5000 is compatible with conventional PV inverters, enabling flexible energy management for both new and existing solar installations. It includes AI-based energy management designed to respond to dynamic electricity pricing through automated charge and discharge scheduling, allowing energy storage during off-peak or negative pricing periods and discharge during higher tariff periods to improve self-consumption and support household electricity cost optimization under time-of-use pricing.
The product also supports local smart control without reliance on internet connectivity. This functionality is enabled through Growatt’s RF smart meter solutions, including the SEM5-1 Smart Meter and the SMeter-RS02 Infrared Meter Reading Head. Compared with WiFi-based meters, the RF solution enables simplified configuration, stable long-distance communication, and offline intelligent energy scheduling.
The system uses a LiFePO₄ battery rated for more than 6,000 cycles with a 10-year warranty and features an IP66 enclosure, cold-start capability to −30 °C, ultra-quiet operation below 30 dB, and an EPS function with sub-20 ms response for critical loads during grid outages.
David Ding, CEO of Growatt, stated that AURA 5000 integrates intelligent energy management, plug-and-play installation, and safety features to support balcony solar storage in urban residential settings.
