EVE Energy signs 10 MW / 36 MWh KLIA project in Malaysia

China-based lithium battery manufacturer, EVE Energy, has signed a contract for a Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) solar-plus-storage project with Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Fadillah Yusof present at the signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur. This ground mounted solar PV and BESS project represents EVE Energy’s first AC/DC integrated BESS deployment in Malaysia.

The KLIA project consists of a 10 MW / 36 MWh solar PV and battery energy storage system, combined with a 36 MWp solar farm. The system is equipped with EVE Energy’s 628 Ah lithium battery cells and a highly integrated architecture. The system features a planned 5 MWh storage configuration designed for grid-connected applications.

The energy storage system is designed to support renewable energy integration, peak load management and grid frequency regulation. Once operational, the project is expected to supply electricity to KLIA’s main terminal in coordination with onsite solar generation. Commercial operation is scheduled for 2027.

KLIA is one of Southeast Asia’s busiest aviation hubs, handling approximately 6 million passengers annually. The project aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and carbon reduction goals. Based on project estimates, the combined solar and storage system is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 42,006 tons per year.

The company stated plans to expand partnerships across Southeast Asia and engage with international stakeholders on the development of regional energy projects.

Oscar Chan, General Manager of EVE Energy’s International Energy Storage Sales, stated that the company would apply its technical expertise and project experience to support the delivery of the KLIA energy storage project.
