Jinko ESS, storage arm of Jinko Solar, has introduced integrated storage solution SunGiga G2 ESS with a 261- kWh capacity. Khalid Mannan, Product Manager for BESS,has provided the details about the product at the TaiyangNews Inverters and Battery Storage Conference.

SunGiga G2 ESS is a liquid-cooled lithium iron phosphate (LFP) energy storage system developed for the commercial and industrial segment.

The SunGiga G2 energy storage system integrates five vertically arranged battery modules, a Power Conversion System (PCS), and an air-cooled chiller within a single metal enclosure. Each module contains 52 LFP cells rated at 314 Ah and 3.2 V, connected in series to produce a DC voltage of 832 V. Collectively, the five modules provide a total usable storage capacity of 261 kWh. When connected to a 135 kW three-phase bidirectional PCS, the system supports continuous discharge at nominal power for up to two hours, enabling short-duration backup operation.

He explained that the new generation adopts a more compact and highly integrated architecture that combines the high-voltage battery and power conversion system, reducing the overall footprint by about 10% compared with the previous model SunGiga G1.

Performance scalability

 

According to Mannan, the SunGiga G2 increases cycle life to 8,000 cycles, improves system efficiency, and lowers auxiliary power consumption. He added that the system supports both on-grid and off-grid operation and allows parallel connection of up to 12 units, enabling scalable installations of up to around 3 MW.

The SunGiga G2 integrates battery management, power conversion control, and local energy management functions. Remote monitoring and operation and maintenance capabilities are included to support system supervision and diagnostics over the project lifecycle.

Safety validation

Jinko ESS has presented cell-level safety test results for the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells used in its SunGiga G2 commercial and industrial battery energy storage system. The tests covered overcharge, thermal runaway, short-circuit response, and consistency of performance under controlled conditions.

According to the test data shown, during overcharge testing at 5.35 V, the cell exhibited limited swelling without rupture or explosion. In thermal runaway testing, heating above 500 °C resulted in surface markings, with no fire or explosion observed. Short-circuit testing showed that protective fuses activated within seconds, limiting peak temperature and preventing leakage or combustion.
